Together with our Polish members, NAUWC  (the National Auditing Union of Worker Cooperatives), and OZRSS (National Auditing Union of Social Cooperatives), CECOP is co-organising a seminar in Krakow in May.

The seminar, titled “The Cooperative Model in the Era of Sustainable Reporting – Values That Build a Better World”, is an integral part of the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025. As part of the global theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World”, this event will delve into the evolving role of cooperatives in advancing sustainable practices and the practices implemented to measure and report it, especially in the context of increasing standards which enterprises shall use to carry out their sustainability reporting obligations, covering the environmental, social, and governance areas.

While the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) exempts Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from mandatory sustainability reporting, many of them are proactively seeking guidance on voluntary reporting standards. These businesses, cooperatives included, recognise that, in the future, public authorities, financial institutions, and clients may require them to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability—particularly in the context of public procurement, access to sustainable finance, and supply chains.

The seminar will focus on the tools and methodologies that cooperatives across Europe are utilising to implement sustainability reporting, accompanied by experts from the cooperative movement showcasing best practice examples. This event will provide valuable insights on how cooperatives can navigate this rapidly evolving area and contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive economy.
