Even if these companies were created three years ago, the 82.5% are now pursuing their activity (against the 66% for French companies, according to the French Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, INSEE); it is also the case of 66.1% of French Companies after five years, against a survival rate of 50% for those companies.

The new enterprises created are mainly new creations, (70%), but also transformed associations (15%), healthy business transfers (10%) and 5% result from the buyout of enterprises in difficulty. Concerning the sectors, in the last year, the services sector (audiovisual production, publishing, computer services, consulting, architecture, and engineering) has remained the primary activity (concerning 43.7% of the companies) and the number one “employer” (35.9%); it is also the fastest growing sector, represents three quarters of the net new business creations.

This means that French worker cooperatives operate mainly in tertiary areas, although the construction and manufacturing industries still occupy the top positions and employ the 43% of the co- entrepreneurs.
